Voters in key states support pollution-free transportation

CHARGE conducted a poll of voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania finding that they support common sense policies that will electrify America’s transportation and public transit system, create jobs, provide training for workers and support a strong economy.

 
 

TOP FINDING

A majority of voters in all fives states believe that policies below, which focus on supporting and strengthening public transportation and transitioning public transportation vehicles to electric vehicles, will have a positive impact on creating jobs and improving the economy in their state. Nearly a quarter of voters in all five states believe that these policies will have a “very positive” impact on creating jobs and improving the economy:

  • Create an annual investment fund to expand, improve and electrify public transit systems, particularly those servicing communities of color.

  • Develop incentives for public transportation agencies to transition to electric vehicles prioritized by air quality, health, and environmental justice impacts.

  • Provide training to public transit workers to support the transition to electric vehicles.

Top Results Per State

ARIZONA

  • Nearly two-thirds of Arizona voters (64%) support investment to strengthen public transportation access in their communities. And a strong majority of nearly 6-in-10 (57%) support public investment to transition public transportation vehicles such as school and commuter buses and taxis from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles.

  • A majority of Arizona voters (52%) support public investment to expand changing infrastructure for electric vehicles. In fact one-in-five (20%) strongly support this type of public investment.

  • A plurality (47%) of Arizona voters would support public investment to transition freight trucks and delivery vans from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles. Nearly a quarter (24%) strongly support this type of investment.

GEORGIA

  • Nearly two-thirds of Georgia voters (60%) support investment to strengthen public transportation access in their communities. And a plurality (48%) support public investment to transition public transportation vehicles such as school and commuter buses and taxis from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles.

  • A plurality of Georgia voters (47%) support public investment to expand changing infrastructure for electric vehicles. In fact one-in-seven (14%) strongly support this type of public investment.

  • A majority (51%) of Georgia voters would support public investment to transition freight trucks and delivery vans from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles. Nearly a quarter (22%) strongly support this type of investment.

MICHIGAN

  • Nearly two-thirds of Michigan voters (64%) support investment to strengthen public transportation access in their communities. And a majority (55%) support public investment to transition public transportation vehicles such as school and commuter buses and taxis from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles.

  • A majority of Michigan voters (51%) support public investment to expand changing infrastructure for electric vehicles. In fact over one-in-five (22%) strongly support this type of public investment.

  • A majority (50%) of Michigan voters would support public investment to transition freight trucks and delivery vans from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles. Nearly a quarter (23%) strongly support this type of investment.

NEW YORK

  • Two-thirds of New York voters (66%) support investment to strengthen public transportation access in their communities. And a strong majority of nearly two-thirds (64%) support public investment to transition public transportation vehicles such as school and commuter buses and taxis from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles.

  • A majority of New York voters (56%) support public investment to expand changing infrastructure for electric vehicles. In fact over one-in-six (17%) strongly support this type of public investment.

  • A majority (53%) of New York voters would support public investment to transition freight trucks and delivery vans from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles. Over one-in-five (21%) strongly support this type of investment.

PENNSYLVAINA

  • Seven out of ten of Pennsylvania voters (70%) support investment to strengthen public transportation access in their communities. And a strong majority of 6-in-10 (60%) support public investment to transition public transportation vehicles such as school and commuter buses and taxis from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles.

  • A majority of Pennsylvania voters (54%) support public investment to expand changing infrastructure for electric vehicles. In fact one-in-five (20%) strongly support this type of public investment.

  • A majority (52%) of Pennsylvania voters would support public investment to transition freight trucks and delivery vans from gas-and-diesel-powered to electric-powered vehicles. Over a quarter (25%) strongly support this type of investment.
